Three Basic Steps to a SAFERhome Certified Home
Step 1. Registration Form
Complete the registration form for your project and mail it together with your registration and inspection payment to the SAFERhome Society. Registration and inspection costs are $450 per single family home/unit or $400 for multi units. Alternatively, you can email us your registration and inspection form and we will forward an invoice which you can pay online.
To safeguard yourself, add the following clause to your builder’s/developer’s or real estate contract “subject to proof of SAFERhome Standards Certification”.
With your registration we will provide you with a copy of the SAFERhome Standards Manual with the technical details for each criteria of the SAFERhome Standards. Your registration entitles you to technical and other support you may require to certify your home.
Step 2. Design & Build Your Home / Project
The SAFERhome Standards manual provides all the technical details for each criterion to meet the Standards. The Standards are grouped into three categories – Structural & Design, Electrical & Telecom, and Plumbing.
Step 3. SAFERhome Certified Building Inspection & Certificate
Before the dry-walling stage contact us to make arrangements for our SAFERhome Certified Building Inspectors (ASTTBC) in British Columbia for the inspection. Cost of SAFERhome inspection for certification is already included with your registration.
Once you have passed inspection your inspector will register your home/units with the SAFERhome Standards registry office.
You will receive a SAFERhome Standards certificate and registration number(s) for each unit.
